Hi - what's going on for the rest of this month!

Writer's picture: Crystal LuttonCrystal Lutton

And how has it been so long since I updated???

I do know the answer to both -- this weekend I start my trek through the summer heat by attending a Cacao Ceremony I've been wanting to attend instead of setting up my booth. It's felt weird and until this morning I wasn't sure if I could actually do it - I'm not just a creature of habit but I'm building a business and getting my merchandise out there is how I do that! I do have an idea for something I might try out tonight--and, if I do, I will definitely share it with you all!

Tomorrow it will be about 3 - 8 degrees cooler (okay - the number I'm thinking will be a cutoff is 110 degrees. Yes - today is going to be over 110!) and I will be out at the market at Roosevelt Row Apartments (330 E Roosevelt Street in Phoenix).

I haven't fully decided for next weekend but i do plan to be out for at least one market every weekend -- and I'm working on how to increase online sales so if you want to cruise by Adorned by Crystal's main page and check out what's available that would be great!

As for where I've been -- I had a wonderful experience this summer teaching art at a summer camp. The camp is one I think is so important and I get excited about helping children learn art. It was 3.5 weeks long and we made (not every class as it was divided by ages):

  • decoupage boxes

  • string art

  • mandalas with slices of toilet paper rolls

  • sewing project bags

  • embroidery

and so many pictures were drawn and colored!

On the last day the team I was working with gifted me with a wonderful collection of gifts and they were absolutely perfect! This picture was made with Bazaart using AI but the pivot sign was one of the gifts (I'll put the real picture below--okay, I did brighten it up a bit, I don't have the overhead light on). The first week things kept changing (which I was ready for) but I kept saying, "okay - pivot, pivot, pivot!" Now I have it right in front of my sewing machine to remind me what to do when things aren't going how I had hoped.

I've also been working on some wonderful new aprons and deciding whether I want to start making sweaters for the winter or not. I've had a lot of people ask but my answer has always been that they take me so long that no one would want to pay what I'd have to charge for them. What's changed? I came up with an idea that I believe will make very fun sweaters in less time - I'm working on the prototype now. So stay tuned!
