Gaze upon the Rain Flower Viewing Stones

If you are in Nanjing China and go to the edge of the Yangtze River you will find Yuhua stones, or pebbles. These special stones are made of sediment -- specifically minerals and other silicates, Jade, Jasper, Chalcedony, etc. -- come in a variety of different colors determined by the minerals that combine to creat them, and they are polished smooth by the running water of the river. They have whimsical patterns that are a wonderful example of how random and creative nature can be.

Yuhua, or Rain Flower, Viewing Stones have long been known for more than their beauty -- they are also believed to bring harmony, especially in a way that is beneficial to romantic relationships. Perhaps this meaning stems from the story of the origins of these stones.

According to this story, during the Liang Dynasty, a young Chinese Monk named Yunguang shared sermons, as he traveled, to those he encountered. While in Nanjing, the story continues, he sat on the Guanghua Gate for three days sharing his teachings. God was deeply moved by his sincerity and thousands of colorful flowers rained down as a reward. Touching the ground, they were turned into the Yuhua stones.

These stones have been appreciated by those who encounter them for thousands of years. Their unique and random patterning have also inspired many to view them like clouds -- looking for faces, animals, and whatever fun shapes that can be seen.

I'm always on the lookout for beautiful beads and I have a lot of fun creating with them. I currently have beautiful Rain Flower stones in colors of blue and "green red" (I think they look pink but you tell me), They bring their whimsical patterns to the natural stone braelets you can find here. If you don't see what you're looking for, please feel free to reach out and we can talk about creating it.
